Hollywood Animal Hospital Bloodbank and Donor Program

Bloodbank/Blood Donor Program - HAH operates its own in-house Bloodbank with the assistance of numerous Canine greyhounds and Felines. We are the only animal hospital in the area to offer this vital service. Just as humans may be in need of blood transfusions, so at times are our furry friends. Due to the continuous amount of emergencies, critically ill referrals, anemic animals, and much more, the bloodbank has become a vital aspect of our facility and has enabled us to save thousands of dogs and cats over the years. Our animal donors are family and are maintained in a home like environment. The HAH bloodbank is supervised by an associate doctor and run by several of our dedicated technicians.

Meet our HAH greyhound blood donors:

To be a canine blood donor, a dog must be of a universal blood type. In most dogs it is rare to find, with only around 40% being universal donors. In Greyhounds, it is rare not to find a universal donor.

All of HAH’s greyhounds are adopted to us as retired racers. At our hospital they receive the best health care, a fellow donor roommate, lots of playtime and love and attention.

Feline Blood DonorsMeet our HAH feline blood donors:

Almost every feline can be a blood donor if their blood is compatible, but HAH feline donors are special because they have a place in our hearts. Living all together, they receive the best health care, plenty of food, lots of playtime and love and attention. Due to a generous donation, they now have a very large Cat Condo for them to sleep, run and play on.

BloodbankHAH Adopting a Donor Program

Our blood donors donate for at least two years and then pending interest and availability of homes, they are adopted out. Greyhounds make wonderful pets and are in need of permanent loving homes. They have saved the lives of so many, we strive to give them the wonderful life they deserve.

Please contact our attending bloodbank veterinarian Dr. Kim Fanning or the bloodbank supervisor for adoption inquiries.
